Cairo, Egypt 2009
Architecture – Engineering – Landscape
The competition, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, called for proposals for a more modern school agenda. This was to incorporate new technological facilities within the educational program as well as a re-assessment of the standard Egyptian school design.
The design proposed a simplified module that would be tailored specifically to each location in order to achieve minimum solar gains and maximum passive cooling using courtyards, wind catchers, deep windows and ledges in the appropriate orientations. Variations were proposed to reflect the locations of the school within urban and rural settings.
